The Local Government Unit (LGU) of San Miguel, Surigao del Sur, has ordered rice retailers, market vendors, and business establishments to comply with the mandated price ceiling of PHP50 per kilogram on imported rice, following Executive Order (EO) No. 118 issued by Malacañang.

Mayor Michael Corilla on Monday emphasized that the directive aims to protect consumers from sudden price hikes and ensure affordable access to staple food.

“We are directing all rice traders and establishments in San Miguel to strictly observe the PHP50 price ceiling,” Corilla said.

EO 118, signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., imposes a nationwide price ceiling on imported rice for 30 days, unless lifted earlier upon recommendation of the National Price Coordinating Council. The order was crafted to address rising rice prices and prevent profiteering amid supply concerns.

“You are directed to strictly comply with the prescribed price ceiling and ensure that the selling price of covered imported rice does not exceed PHP50,” Corilla said.

He also asked consumers in the town to report violators to the municipal government or concerned agencies for enforcement action. (PNA)
