During a state visit to India, Duterte alluded to the promise of 42 virgins in the afterlife supposedly used by Islamic State extremists to gain followers. He used the same promise as a means to encourage tourists to visit the Philippines. He later added that he would rather have the virgins while he is on Earth since God may not allow it in heaven.
