The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional office has deployed 10,445 Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) beneficiaries to assist in cleaning, repair, and other preparations for the opening of the new school year, the agency said Friday.
The workers were mobilized in 198 campuses across Eastern Visayas starting June 1 and will work for 10 days, according to DOLE Assistant Regional Director Joan Noya-Nidua.
DOLE has allocated PHP53.26 million for their wages, providing temporary employment and income support to parents and guardians of learners.
“The Department of Education can count on the continued and strengthened support and services of DOLE Region 8 in Brigada Eskwela and in all DepEd initiatives that promote safe, orderly, and quality education for every learner in Eastern Visayas,” Noya-Nidua said.
Launched in 2020, TUPAD is a community-based program that provides short-term employment to underemployed, self-employed, and displaced marginalized workers affected by crises. (PNA)
