About 5,986 beneficiaries of the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) across the Caraga Region will support the ongoing Brigada Eskwela program of the Department of Education (DepEd) to prepare schools for the opening of classes for school year 2026-2027.
A total of PHP24.3 million in funding has been allocated to the TUPAD program in Caraga to deploy beneficiaries to provide services during the Brigada Eskwela at various schools across the region.
The Brigada Eskwela kicked off on Monday at the Cabadbaran City National High School in Cabadbaran City, with DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara gracing the occasion.
The DOLE has provided PHP2 billion in funding for the TUPAD program to support school preparations nationwide through Brigada Eskwela.
“The deployment of TUPAD beneficiaries is part of the convergence initiative between DOLE and the DepEd, providing 10 days of temporary employment to disadvantaged workers while helping prepare schools for the opening of classes,” the DOLE-13 said in a statement on Wednesday.
Data provided by DOLE-13 indicated that of the total number of TUPAD beneficiaries, 1,496 will be deployed to different schools in Agusan del Norte, 994 in Surigao del Norte, 2,580 in Surigao del Sur, and 223 in Dinagat Islands.
The TUPAD beneficiaries will be involved in different services, including facility maintenance and repairs, cleaning and sanitation, beautification and landscaping, and safety and hazard proofing. (PNA)
