A “triplet cake” will highlight the 2026 Strawberry Festival in this capital town of Benguet that formally opened on Wednesday.

In a press conference, municipal council committee on tourism chair Councilor Belmer Elis said the cake will be unveiled on March 29.

He said they are still finalizing details such as the baker of the cake, its ingredients and decorations.

“We are still in the planning stage but it was already finalized to have a triplet cake,” he added.

The cake will be sliced into 10,000 pieces and will be sold to the public at PHP20 per slice.

“We are now selling the tickets [for the cake slices],” he said.

In the past, the festival served a twin cake, cupcakes, a “kayabang” (Ibaloi basket)-design cake and a giant strawberry shortcake.

The town’s Strawberry Festival started in 1981 and was institutionalized in 2011 through an ordinance. This year’s festival will run until April 1.

La Trinidad holds the Guinness World Record for the biggest strawberry shortcake in 2004, which served 10,000 people.

Other festival activities include the search for the heaviest and sweetest strawberries, battle of the bands, drum and lyre and street dancing parade, male and female pageants, horse racing competition, and traditional rituals and dances. (PNA)
