A woman who suddenly gave birth in front of a police station here on Tuesday received assistance from law enforcers who helped her deliver her baby on the roadside.

In a statement Wednesday, the Talomo police station said several of their personnel were on a routine morning run when they passed by a pregnant woman experiencing labor pains on the roadside along the highway of Matina Crossing.

The woman and her husband turned out to have been waiting for a ride going to the hospital for the expected delivery but the mother unexpectedly went on labor on the street.

Without any delay, the police officers immediately rushed to call the duty nurse inside the police station.

“The mother safely delivered a healthy baby girl,” the Talomo police station said.

After delivering the baby with the help of the police station’s nurse, the rescuing police officers immediately brought the mother and her newborn baby to a hospital.

The team of police stayed with the family until the doctor declared that the mother and the baby were safe, the Talomo police station said.

Lt. Col. Ronald Lao, Talomo station commander, commended the police officers for immediately responding to a distress call.

“This is one of the many instances of our police performing their duties to the best of their abilities and it makes us incredibly proud,” Lao said. (PNA)
