The Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) will implement a reduced rationing scheme even as the water level at the diversion weir drastically dropped to 73.90 meters as of 4 p.m. Monday (February 24).

Edgar Baños, ZCWD information officer, said the revised rationing scheme will take effect Wednesday, February 26.

Baños said the current water level is critically below normal of 74.20 meters needed to serve around 64,000 active connections under its service area adequately.

He said the revised rationing scheme is less than two hours than the current 14 hours with water on every other day basis.

ZCWD has divided its service area into three sectors, namely east, central and west, to be able to serve its active connections.

Engr. Eugene Domingo, Water Production Division manager, said the prevailing dry spell and lack of significant rainfall at the watershed contributed to the drastic drop of water level at the ZCWD’s diversion weir.

ZCWD started the rationing scheme last February 3, with 12 hours of water supply every other day. (PNA)
