Cinemas are now open in some areas of the Philippines where lockdown restrictions were eased. Yet for moviegoers who are still uncomfortable going outside their homes, one option for entertainment is “Live Streaming”, a short film series by emerging artist’s servicescape 23 Sampaguita Creative Space with NGO for children LINKS.

Directed by Giullienne Sanchez, the five shorts will revolve around different individuals in their most vulnerable moments. They will be streamed 9PM on the following dates: Binge-Watcher, November 6; Tatsulunok, November 13; Out Of The Ronnie Closet, November 20; Kansel Sa Lipunan, December 4; and Missing, November 27.

Sanchez, who is also Co-founder of 23 Sampaguita believes that art is important because humanity needs a healthy form of self-expression and release. “Art manifests goodness and brings hope that this will world will carry on in brilliance no matter what,” added the advocate of culture and heritage.

From October 15 to October 22, this event is pre-selling online premier tickets at Php100 per film as a fundraiser for those affected by Typhoon Maring (international name Kompasu) in Northern Luzon. Register at https://tinyurl.com/ReliefForTyphoonMaring.

The severe tropical storm entered the county on October 7 packing winds of up to 100 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gustiness of up to 125 km/h. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council On October 14 reported more than 1 billion Pesos in damage to agriculture and fatalities due to flashfloods and landslides.

LINKS Founder and President Ningning Doble appealed on social media by sharing stories of the devastation brought by Typhoon Maring. “[A teacher from] Luna, La Union recalled that the water rose so fast that chairs, tables, computers, printers and modules floated away with the flood. [Another] teacher’s home’s roof and furnitures were blown away by a tornado. Nakakaiyak talaga,” said Doble while offered to connect with schools in need anyone interested to extend aid in any capacity.

Photos below show three schools Rimos del Norte Elementary School, Rimos Elementary School and Sto. Domingo Elementary School, all in Luna, La Union.

With decades of humanitarian work in different parts of the country, Doble established LINKS with a mission of building bridges to connect the marginalized children and people and organizations who can help. Its vision is for each child to enjoy a happy, healthy and inspiring environment.

Over the years, with groups of volunteers in the Philippines, Scotland and USA, LINKS has donated thousands of boxes of books to schools. One of their project is called “Hooked On Books” or H.O.B.S where the group builds or refurbishes school libraries and donates age-appropriate reading materials. To ensure the sustainability of their projects, they also train teachers on library systems and assists in introducing the project to the whole community of learners.

Doble encouraged everyone to watch “Live Streaming” and bring hope to those affected by the disaster saying “With your help, relief goods will be given to Baguio and Benguet particularly San Roque Village, Mirador Hill, Betag, Antamok and Tublay. Also, La Union towns Bacnotan and San Gabriel will be assisted.”
