Around 4.52 million residents have registered for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) ID as of June 30, reaching 97 percent of the region’s target of 4.66 million registrations, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) 11 (Davao) said Thursday.

Registration numbers include 2.1million people in Davao del Sur, 995,881 in Davao del Norte, 666,765 in Davao de Oro, 483,871 in Davao Oriental, and 274,525 in Davao Occidental.

To date, over 3 million national IDs have been delivered in the region, with an additional 2 million IDs in paper form distributed.

“These achievements result from the hard work of local government units, government and private organizations, and dedicated registration personnel,” the PSA statement read.

The PhilSys ID, the official national identity card for Filipino citizens and foreign permanent residents in the Philippines, aims to streamline access to government services and improve security.

It is designed to minimize the risks of identity fraud and enhance security and convenience for registered persons across the nation.

The PhilSys ID enables more efficient access to government services, healthcare, social welfare, and education, and fosters financial inclusion by allowing citizens to open bank accounts, access credit, and participate more fully in the formal economy. (PNA)
