If you have been on Instagram these past few days, you might have encountered a lot of black and white photos of your friends or celebrities that you follow with a caption “challenge accepted”.

So, if you are wondering what those posts are all about, it is basically a photo challenge about women supporting women. Women nominate each other to post a black and white photo of themselves. Share it on their Instagram feed with a caption “challenge accepted” and tag the people who have nominated them.

At a surface it may seem like it is just another Instagram challenge with an empty gesture because it doesn’t require any advocacies and that the challenge itself is vague enough in a way that people are already using it as an excuse to post a selfie of themselves.

But just recently @beelzeboobz, a Turkish blogger posted on his Instagram account the real meaning behind the challenge and how it started.

Also, Times travel reporter Tariro Mzezewa shared on her twitter account the real meaning of the challenge and the original hashtags that were used and was eventually dropped when the challenged gained popularity.

Turns out the photo challenge is not just about women supporting women, but it is also meant to shed light on the issue of domestic violence and femicide that is happening in Turkey.

So, if you are to be tagged in doing this photo challenge do not juts post a picture of yourself but also challenge yourself to learn more about the issue on female domestic violence and femicide.
