A total of 161 new positions, mostly for non-teaching personnel, have been created for the Schools Division of Ilocos Norte (SDOIN) for School Year 2025-2026 to enhance overall capacity and support quality education in the province.

“Most of the new items are non-teaching staff to be assigned at the SDOIN, including the Junior High School, Senior High School and Elementary,” Valerie Talamayan, the division’s information officer, said in a phone interview on Monday.

Currently, Department of Education (DepEd) – Ilocos Norte has 5,165 personnel consisting of 4,176 teaching and 989 non-teaching staff.

The DepEd Central Office earlier issued a memorandum to fill up all existing teaching items in field offices and to hire more non-teaching staff to reduce tasks assigned to teachers.

The Department of Budget and Management recently approved the hiring of 16,000 additional teachers and 10,000 non-teaching personnel for the current school year.

The move is in response to the call of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to ease administrative work at DepEd and give more time for teachers to upskill and improve the quality of teaching. (PNA)
