The Department of Education (DepEd) in Western Visayas and its 21 schools division offices have generated PHP33.2 million donations from its 43,444 partners regionwide from Aug 1 to 6, 2022.

This was announced by Ma. Lira Cynthia Quejada, DepEd Regional Partnership Focal Person, during the regional launching of the Brigada Eskwela at the Capiz Villareal Stadium in Capiz on Monday as the department continues to rally the support of stakeholders in preparation for the opening of school year 2022-2023.

“Brigada Eskwela has been a prime mover of volunteerism and community involvement in the Department of Education. This program has enabled partners from various sectors to intensify their support for public elementary and secondary school,” she said.

She added that this year’s Brigada is already geared towards the full-swing implementation of the face-to-face classes that is expected to start in November.

Brigada Eskwela is already a full-blown program with three components namely: Brigada Eskwela sa Paghahanda or the school maintenance from minor to medium repair activities, Brigada Eskwela Plus that focuses on community-led efforts to improve learner participation and reduce dropouts, and Brigada Pagbasa, which is after school reading remediation to intensify advocacy on reading and make every learner a reader.

“We need the whole community for its improvement, both the physical and for instructional,” she added.

DepEd officer-in-charge Regional Director Pedro T. Escobarte Jr. said Brigada Eskwela marked the start of their preparation from the regional down to their schools for the next school year.

“This time, it will be a bit different from the two previous school years that we have delivered learning. This time, we will be opening our schools and looking forward that by November all schools in Region VI will be able to shift to face-to-face delivery of learning,” he said.

During the regional launching, local government units, private partners and government agencies also committed to support the department’s efforts and advocacy.

The event ended with the signing of the wall of commitment by various participants. (PNA)
