The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released about PHP63.49 billion to fund 1,743 infrastructure projects and construct 4,960 classrooms nationwide to accelerate public infrastructure development and improve access to basic education.

Of the PHP63.49 billion, about PHP46.22 billion was allocated to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for infrastructure projects in 17 regions.

The DBM approved the issuance of 158 Special Allotment Release Orders (SAROs) for the infrastructure projects on April 15.

The funding will support road network expansion, bridge rehabilitation, preventive maintenance, and other priority works aimed at improving mobility and boosting economic activity.

Among the major projects funded is the Davao City Bypass Construction Project, with an approved allocation of PHP288.37 million for 2026.

The approved budget for infrastructure projects will also cover various initiatives under the DPWH’s Asset Preservation Program, including preventive maintenance of national roads, as well as the rehabilitation and reconstruction of existing road networks.

It will also be used to support the Network Development Program, which includes road widening and off-carriageway improvements, and the Bridge Program, which focuses on the rehabilitation, retrofitting, strengthening, and widening of permanent bridges.

The DBM said the projects funded under the release have undergone thorough evaluation and are aligned with the Marcos administration’s priorities for infrastructure development and the advancement of socioeconomic growth.

DBM acting Secretary Rolando Toledo said the releases reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring the timely implementation of priority projects that directly benefit communities.

He added that the DBM prioritizes the immediate release of funds, once documentation requirements are completed, noting the importance of avoiding delays in project implementation.

Classroom construction

Meanwhile, the DBM approved the release of about PHP17.27 billion to the Department of Education (DepEd) for the construction of 4,960 classrooms nationwide, including the provision of furniture and fixtures under the Basic Education Facilities (BEF) Program.

The amount was released through a SARO issued on April 13.

The BEF Program aims to address classroom shortages in public schools and improve learning conditions, particularly in overcrowded and underserved areas.

The funding requirements will be charged against the PHP85.4 billion BEF Fund under the 2026 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the DBM said.

Toledo said the release is a decisive step toward closing the country’s classroom gap, ensuring that every Filipino learner has access to a “safe, conducive, and dignified learning environment.” (PNA)
