The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Davao (DSWD-11) bared on Wednesday the distribution of seed capital and livelihood projects valued at PHP950,000 to two associations in Davao City and Davao del Norte.

In a statement, the agency said the Marvelous General Merchandiser Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) Association in the city’s Paquibato district received a PHP450,000 seed fund. The Panaghiusa nga Panginabuhian sa Lunga-og SLPA in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte, received a PHP400,000 livelihood project.

The Marvelous General Merchandiser SLP Association will engage in a general merchandise and buy-and-sell business. Meanwhile, the Panaghiusa nga Panginabuhian sa Lunga-og SLPA will run a Crispy Fry production and provide table-and-chair rental services for community events, ensuring a steady income and meeting local needs.

“The aid will eventually help the associations in improving their income, especially their families who belong to the marginalized sectors,” DSWD-11 said.

The agency characterized the initiative as more than a simple livelihood enhancement, viewing it as a strategic move to bolster community resilience, encourage self-reliance and stimulate grassroots economic development.

“The funding forms part of the agency’s continuing effort to empower organized groups and spur rural development through sustainable, community-led enterprises,” the DSWD-11 said. (PNA)
