The Antique Provincial Board has unanimously approved the municipal ordinance of the province’s capital town promoting economic empowerment for persons with disability (PWDs) during their Monday regular session.

Ordinance 2026-11 or An Ordinance Establishing and Promoting Livelihood Program for PWDs in San Jose de Buenavista, promotes the rights of the PWDs to equal opportunities, self-development and full participation in society pursuant to Republic Act 7277 or the Magna Carta for PWD.

Under the ordinance, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will provide the PWDs with skills trainings, livelihood opportunities and other capacity enhancement for their eventual employment.

It will be implemented by the San Jose de Buenavista local government unit through its Provincial Disability Affairs Office, which would match the PWD skills with business establishments or other employers in the municipality.

“The Ordinance could enhance capabilities, skills and talents of the PWDs,” Board Member Zoilo Bernardo Tubianosa, chair of the committee on foreign relations, labor and employment, said as he recommended approval of the said ordinance.

He noted that over 2,000 PWDs from San Jose de Buenavista would benefit from the implementation of the ordinance.

The Provincial Board immediately approved the ordinance. (PNA)
