The National Irrigation Administration in Bicol (NIA-5) said Wednesday 3,800 bags of affordable rice will be for sale in its offices within Bicol region on Thursday.

NIA-Bicol spokesperson Ma. Cleofe Baraero said the rice would be sold for only PHP29 per kg. or PHP290 per 10-kg. bag.

“This supply is available in nine locations across different provinces. This initiative is part of our collaboration with the National Nutrition Council (NNC) to culminate Nutrition Month activities,” Baraero said.

The sales locations include the NIA regional office in Naga City, as well as the Irrigation Management Offices in Sta. Lucia, Magarao, Handong, Libmanan, Del Carmen, San Jose, Sta. Elena (all in Camarines Sur), Daet (Camarines Norte), Buhatan (Sorsogon City), the Catanduanes Satellite Office in Virac, and Ligao City in Albay province.

“The affordable rice will be limited to a purchase of 10 kilograms per person to ensure that more people can buy and enjoy this cheap, newly harvested rice. The Department of Agriculture will set up a booth at our regional office to offer affordable agricultural products, allowing the public to buy fresh, locally produced goods,” she added.

“Please bring your own eco bag for purchases, wear comfortable clothing, maintain order in the surroundings, and adhere to the rules set by the organizers,” she added. (PNA)
