It was an exceptional year in 2024 where Tala’s efforts to ensure that those who need financial services were reached, especially with its mission to empower and unlock the potential of the Global Majority—or those who have historically been excluded from accessing financial services.

In the Philippines, Tala has provided over 23 million loans and disbursed over Php 109 billion to its customers, demonstrating the commitment to creating more access to credit. It also forged a landmark loan channeling partnership worth Php 2.75 billion with Maya Bank that ensures loans are readily available and financial access to credit is made more accessible through the Tala platform.

Beyond allocating and creating resources, Tala Philippines actively engaged with the Global Majority through financial literacy and education initiatives. TALAKayan, a series of workshops conducted in partnership with Empower and Transform and led by financial guru Salve Duplito, aims to empower and educate various groups, including farmers, OFWs, women, and MSMEs. Designed to address the diverse needs and realities of the Global Majority, the workshops reached over 1,223 Filipinos across Metro Manila, nearby provinces, and Singapore.

These milestones in the Philippines underscore Tala’s impact not only on the local financial landscape but also on a global scale.

Tala sponsored the FintechAlliance.PH Digital Lending Industry 2024 publication launch during the 2024 Singapore Fintech Festival. This showcased the nature and trends of the digital lending industry in the Philippines and highlighted fintech companies’ positive influence on Filipinos’ lives. Tala described how collaboration is key in achieving the mission of empowering the global majority and unleashing their economic potential. By partnering with other tech and finance companies with a shared vision of serving the underbanked, the industry can provide better financial solutions and accelerate financial inclusion.

During the 2024 Singapore Fintech Festival, Tala, together with other sponsors, unveiled the Digital Lending Report, showing the impact of digital lending on Filipinos. Tala’s Chief Business Officer Jori Pearsall and External Affairs Director Arianne Ferrer highlighted the fintech’s consumer-driven innovation.

These collaborations are instrumental in developing a holistic, multi-faceted approach, especially as a growing industry. In the same year, Tala collaborated with the Atlantic Council to create a position paper emphasizing the necessity of a financial inclusion agenda for the Global Majority.

2024 is also a year that Tala achieved major milestones on a global scale, including celebrating a decade of empowering the Global Majority and reaching 10 million customers worldwide, which reflected its unwavering commitment to bridge the financial inclusion gap. Its innovation and efforts to enhance services did not go unnoticed, as Tala was named one of the Top 250 Fintech companies by CNBC and included in the Forbes Fintech 50 for the 8th consecutive year and CNBC’s Disruptor 50 for the 5th year.

Alyne, a Tala customer from Santa Josefa, Agusan del Sur, is a shining example of how Tala is able to change lives for the better. From being a truck driver in Manila, he made the decision to change careers and move back to Agusan to be closer to his family and be more present with them. He put up a barbecue business at home, and with the help of Tala’s hassle-free loans, Alyne was able to grow this and even cover emergency medical expenses for his wife. Tala became a guiding star for Alyne, providing the light and support he needed to overcome challenges.

“Because of Tala, my business has improved. Even after the first loan, I really didn’t hesitate to wait for my due date because I know it helped me a lot to make my barbeque business grow, and now I can be closer to my kids and home, said Alyne, a former driver in Manila who now makes a living in his hometown of Santa Josefa, Agusan Del Sur.

“We consider 2024 to be an extraordinary year, filled with accomplishments that reflect our journey as the world’s first platform for the Global Majority. We want to continue the kind of success we had last year and bring ourselves further this 2025, where we are currently focused on expanding access and exploring more impactful partnerships,” said Moritz Gastl, General Manager of Tala Philippines. Tala is now reaching new customers than ever before globally, with the Philippines achieving the highest number of first-time customers ever since the pandemic.

True to the radical trust championed by its founder, Shivani Shiroya, Tala remains steadfast in its dedication in placing trust in the Global Majority to unleash their potential and advance financial inclusion.
