Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in Carasi, Ilocos Norte are expected to benefit from a health caravan on Oct. 21 aimed at bringing accessible healthcare services closer to underserved communities.

The Rural Health Unit of Carasi announced this on Monday as the local government unit invited the public to the IP health caravan at the Carasi Civic Center which seeks to address healthcare access challenges, particularly among indigenous families who may face difficulties traveling to medical facilities because of distance, transportation costs and other barriers.

“The health caravan promotes accessible healthcare and essential social services while upholding the rights, cultural heritage, and well-being of our indigenous communities,” said the Carasi Rural Health Unit in a statement.

In time for the celebration of IP month, the health caravan will offer medical consultations in General Medicine, Internal Medicine, ENT (Head and Neck), General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Ophthalmology. Dental services, including general dental consultations and tooth extraction, as well as chest X-ray services, will also be available.

The initiative also provides an opportunity for healthcare workers to identify medical concerns and refer patients who require further examination or specialized treatment.

In addition, community members may also avail themselves of the issuance of certificates of confirmation of tribal membership, free legal aid and notarial services, Philippine Health Insurance Corp. registration, and Yaman ng Kalusugan Program or YAKAP enrollment.

Meanwhile, graduates of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority will provide free haircut and massage services to further support the community’s well-being. (PNA)
