The provincial government of Ilocos Norte is equipping its public schools with interactive smartboards and digital tools to boost teaching and learning in the province.

Public school teachers in the primary and secondary levels attended a training session on the use of interactive smartboard technology to enhance classroom engagement and student participation, at the Capitol auditorium extension building on Tuesday.

Maria Deleilah Felipe Adriatico, head of the Provincial Education Office, said in an interview that 356 smartboards and 60 smart TVs will be distributed to the participants.

“These come with brackets and cables, including external drives,” Adriatico said.

The provincial government has been investing in digitalization initiatives through its Special Education Fund (SEF) to promote future-ready and digitally enabled education.

Ilocos Norte Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos said the purchase of these tools is part of a broader commitment to improving the quality of education in provincial schools.

“These tools are a clear sign of our commitment to improving the quality of education in our schools. So please take advantage of it and enjoy it as well,” Araneta-Marcos told the beneficiaries.

Aileen Rambaud, principal of the Salanap Elementary School in Pinili, said the visual tools would allow teachers to better assess if a class is ready to move on or if a concept needs to be re-taught.

Under the 2026 SEF budget, Adriatico reported that PHP25 million has been allocated for the purchase of weather system detectors for real-time monitoring in schools.

The weather systems will protect students and staff from severe events and serve as a guide for the localized cancellation of classes during typhoons. (PNA)
