Lanao del Sur province marked three years of bird conservation work at Lake Lanao on Tuesday, part of a bid for international environmental recognition.

The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office said its “Ibon sa Ranao” project has completed another annual waterbird census and biodiversity monitoring in the lake area.

“This initiative is a crucial step towards Lanao del Sur’s application as the first Ramsar site in the Bangsamoro Region, recognizing the province’s wetlands as a globally important site for migratory birds,” PENRO said in a statement.

The office collaborated with Mindanao State University colleges and the Bangsamoro government’s environment ministry on the project, which aims to empower local governments in wetland protection.

In a separate legislative session, Board Member Saifullah Aldine Macarambon advocated for adopting renewable energy in the province.

“Let us approve, implement, and defend renewable energy not tomorrow, but today,” Macarambon said. (PNA)
