The local government here has awarded scholarships to a total of 866 new students, fulfilling the current administration’s campaign promise on education.

During an orientation on Friday, Mayor Rolando Uy emphasized that the scholarships represent the city government’s commitment to reach out to more marginalized students who deserve a college degree due to their promising intellect and skills.

“My only request to the youth is that don’t take for granted this opportunity that was given to you,” he said.

The new scholarship scheme will provide a 75 percent tuition subsidy to students enrolled in Cagayan de Oro College-Phinma, with the remaining 25 percent to be shouldered by parents.

The local government currently supports over 5,000 scholars enrolled in various colleges and universities across the city.

Meanwhile, an additional 75 beneficiaries recently graduated from the Barista National Certification under the Relevant Industry Skills for Employment-Technical Vocational Education Training (RISE-TVET) scholarship program. (PNA)
