The Lucena West I Elementary School Drum and Lyre team won seven medals in the junior category, national and international, marching band competition of the Asian Music Awards 2023 in Jember, Indonesia.

On September 22, the team snatched four group awards: Champion in Concert Percussion, Third Place in Drumline, Best in Music, and Best in Visual Effect.

The three awards were won by their members in the solo category: Matteo Zarsuela won Second Place in Percussion—Solo Snare; Zairus Robhert Gliane won Third Place in Percussion—Solo Multi-Tom; and Gene Caleb Noche won Third Place in Percussion—Solo Marimba.

In an interview with a local media outlet, Lucena West 1 Drum and Lyre Corps bandmaster Alfred Orbe shared the history of drums and lyre as an economical alternative to brass brands or drums and bugle corps.

The team’s drums had the usual range of snare, tenor, bass drums, and cymbals; the lyre section had varieties such as bell lyres, glockenspiels, and vibraphones, to which Obre added instrumentation.

With the said win, the Lucena West I Elementary School Drum and Lyre team is thankful for the trust, support, and praise they have received locally and internationally.
