From robots, dolls, even to our lego blocks are getting produced as television series or either a film franchise (Transformers and Lego Movies are only some of the popular examples). This time, Paramount Pictures will also do the same with Beyblades.

According to Deadline, a Beyblade live-action movie is officially in development at Paramount Pictures with Jerry Bruckheimer, who’s known for producing the Pirates of the Caribbean and National Treasure franchises and movies like Bad Boys, Armageddon, and Pearl Harbor. It was reported that Neil Widener and Gavid James will write the script for the project.

In 2015, Deadline also reported that the studio has acquired rights to turn Beyblade into a live-action movie that will be produced by Mary Parent through her Disruption Entertainment banner. Mary Parent also worked on notable projects like Pacific Rim, Godzilla, Detective Pikachu, and Dune.

Beyblades are toys created by Takara Co., Ltd. The Beyblade franchise was first introduced in 1999 as a range of spinning-top toys in which players fire their bey blades into an arena using a specialized launcher, trying to knock your opponent’s Beyblade out of the ring or stop it from spinning. Takara would begin licensing Beyblade to other countries for sale after its official release, most notably Hasbro in Western countries.

The toy has also been produced as a TV series, animated features, and video games around the world.

Plot details for this film are still being kept in a wrap as it is still in its early development. Meanwhile, viewers can only hope that the project will be a success just like the other toys that are developed into franchises and reminisce the child-like thrill of playing with beyblades.
