When an animal rescue agency was asked to rescue a tarantula that had been caught on a roof, they had no idea what they would find.

According to the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA, an animal rescue officer responding to a call from a person concerned that a pet tarantula was trapped on the roof of a home in California swiftly climbed a ladder in an attempt to retrieve the wandering tarantula.

When the worker got close to the spider and tried to put it in a plastic container, they found it was only a misplaced Halloween decoration. The humane society claimed in a Facebook post that “our Animal Rescue & Control staff arrived to rescue the spider, but it was actually a Halloween decoration, not a pet Tarantula requiring our help.”

The animal rescue shelter’s communications manager, Buffy Tarbox, told local news outlet SFGATE, “she said it looked like it had been up there for a while. I guess if you don’t like spiders, that’s the better outcome.”

As of writing, the post garnered over 200 likes and many people have gone to the comment section to give their thoughts on the amusing incident.
