The great woman behind the iconic logo of Pampanga’s Best and the inventor of the original tocino, Lolita Hizon passed away at the age of 84.

Angelica Hizon, former San Fernando, Pampanga councilor, and daughter of Apung Lolet, announced in a Facebook post the unexpected death of Lolita Hizon or famously known as Apung Lolet on October 2.

“With the deepest sorrow, unceasing gratitude, and unwavering faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, our family announced the passing of our beloved Matriarch, Mrs. Leticia Lolita Olalia Hizon,” the family shared.

Established in 1967, Pampanga’s Best has contributed a lot to the country’s economy through its sweet-salty tocino which was coined to become the Filipino’s favorite breakfast. The influence in Filipino cuisine and the immeasurable success of Apung Lolet will forever be a standard.

According to Apung Lolet’s loved ones, she is the epitome of beauty, strength, generosity, faith in the Lord, and love for family which will be hard for them to forget.

Hizon left many people who adore her greatness including her husband, Angelo Hizon Jr., their 12 children, 61 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and thousands of employees and friends who have been with her throughout Pampanga’s Best success.

“Our loss is heaven’s gain. Although we will miss her terribly, her legacy lives on. Apung Lolet always said that the success of Pampanga’s Best has been because of Divine Providence,” the family mourned.

Pampanga’s Best official account re-shared the same statement made by the Hizon family, “The woman in the logo of the Philippines’ iconic brand has joined our Creator. Her smile, charisma, and love for people has made a mark in the food industry. Her original Tocino remains the top food choice of every Filipino. Thank you, Apung Lolet! You lived a best life!” they stated.

Hizon’s family expressed their utmost gratitude to the Creator for lending them his amazing gift which is the great woman, Apung Lolet.
