The city government began on Thursday the house-to-house distribution of the PHP1,000 cash assistance for 1,000 indigent but deserving students.

The move is in line with the Special Program for the Employment of the Students (SPES) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. said it is part of their efforts to look after the welfare of the youth, especially students who are in dire need of help in this time of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

“Maliit man pong halaga, nais lamang po nating makatulong sa mga pangangailangan ng ating mga kabataan (The amount may be small but we just want to help our youth with their needs),” he said in a social media post.

Reina Manuel, the mayor’s executive assistant, said four teams from the Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office and Public Employment Service Office were formed to deliver the assistance in two batches.

In July 2020, about 1,000 poor but deserving students also received PHP1,000 cash assistance each under the same program of the city government. (PNA)
