Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, on Wednesday reminded the police personnel to be extra careful in carrying out duties as among the country’s front-liners in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

This, after the PNP Health Service said the PNP’s 110th fatality due to Covid-19 was fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

“Sa ating mga pulis, dobleng pag-iingat pa rin ang gawin kahit kayo ay kumpleto na ng bakuna lalo na ang mga nasa frontline (To our police personnel, especially those in the frontline, you still have to be extra careful despite being fully vaccinated),” Eleazar said in a statement.

He said the 52-year-old police officer died of cardiac arrest and pneumonia on September 9.

He said a post mortem examination and swab test showed that the cop, who was assigned in Western Visayas, was positive for Covid-19.

“I would like to extend the PNP’s sincerest condolences to the bereaved family and assure them that all benefits and assistance will be given,” he said.
Meanwhile, the PNP Health Service logged 189 recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 34,771.

It, however, reported 229 new cases that increased the PNP’s active case tally to 2,685 and total infections to 37,566.

The PNP has so far fully vaccinated 124,758 or 56.02 percent of its personnel while 85,877 or 38.56 percent are just awaiting the second dose. Only 12,076 or 5.4 percent of police personnel have not been vaccinated.

On Monday, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) conducted another vaccination program where 163 police officers received their second dosage of Covid-19 vaccine at Hinirang Multi-purpose Hall, NCRPO, Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City.

A total of 17 qualified dependents of policemen were also given the anti-Covid 19 jab.

NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. said the vaccination program aims to help the government boost the vaccination rollout and encourage more police personnel to get vaccinated against the virus.

“The goal of a Covid-free country is a shared commitment from all members of the society. We encourage the public to do their part not only for themselves but for the protection of their family and loved ones,” Danao said in a statement on Wednesday.

To date, NCRPO has already a total of 17,953 or 78.08 percent personnel who are fully vaccinated while 4,129 or 17.96 percent received their first dose and 912 or 3.97 percent are yet to be vaccinated due to medical reasons. (PNA)
