Maggie Szabo, a Canadian singer from Los Angeles, featured Dr. Kathryn Davis, a 70-year-old transwoman, in her new music video “Rebuild” which was released on June 11, 2021, on her Youtube channel.

Szabo shared how Davis has inspired her with her story and decided to make her the star in her new video.

“Kathryn and I met through our work with the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles. After realizing we are both Canadians, we became fast friends. As time went on, I had the privilege of really getting to know her and her life story was profoundly inspiring,” she said.

“There is so much more to her journey that I would love to share, and it was a (welcomed) challenge to compile it into such a short video. My deepest hope about what you’ll take away from Kathryn’s story is her resilience, her generosity, and her bravery,” she added.

In an Instagram post, Szabo also shared how Davis had inspired her as a singer who advocates against social injustices the LGBTQ+ community is facing.

“This is my dear friend Kathryn. She is brave. She is resilient. She is beautiful. Her story has always inspired me which is why I’m so honoured we were able to make the ‘Rebuild’ music video about her journey,” she said.

Szabo’s decision of featuring a transwoman in her music video garnered favorable reactions from the netizens.

As of writing, the music video has a total of 48,073 views on YouTube.

Who is Kathryn Davis?

Davis grew up in Toronto and had a home in Los Angeles. After transitioning for the first time in the 90s, Davis did not experience a free and perfect life at all. Her transition made it hard for her to find work even when she had a Ph.D. in Physical Education from Pennsylvania State University and worked as a biomechanics expert and instructor.

With the pressure of not having enough capacity to provide for her children, she then decided to abort transitioning. By the time, she was already undergoing hormone replacement therapy, and had to stop it for her to be accepted in the workplace.

Before having a gender-confirmation surgery by 2016, Davis was married two times and had four children, two from each wife.
