Quarantine forced us to lean on to things that will help to keep our sanity in check. Lately a growing number of people are getting more creative with their coping methods all for keeping themselves busy and distracted from the stress done by COVID-19.

Art doesn’t just unify us, it physically benefits us too. Studies show that spending just 45 minutes on an art project can relieve stress, strengthen critical thinking skills and improves memory as well.

PR AND Influencer Marketing Manager, Part-time professor and Editor-In-Chief of STYLE MNL Edryan Lorenzo turned into art to express his feelings through splashes of colors.

“During the lockdown period, I’ve experienced episodic anxieties and has consumed my mental state due to uncertainties and challenges. At first it was a tough battle to face, I can’t even lift a paintbrush or mix colors, It has been a constant struggle with myself and my abilities to create something useful and beautiful.” he shared.

Feeling unproductive was one of the things Ed has to overcome, just like us. But with the proper guidance of his friends, life coach and mother, he was able to deal with it.

Art has also served as a sanctuary for him. “It has freed my mind from overthinking and negative thoughts. Painting has helped me to negate all the uncertainties that I was feeling in the past and focused myself on possibilities and not on my fears.”

With his affinity for the arts,, “The Lorenzo’s Art” was born. It is an instagram account where you can see and purchase Ed’s masterpieces. According to him, he takes inspiration from what he feels and the emotions that evoke his feelings. He also chose “Pour” medium (which basically means you need to mix a “pouring medium” with acrylic paints to make it flow better) as his chosen way of creating his art pieces because he believes it creatively activate ones mind to decipher, analyze and figure the piece completely.

With his IG ART account gaining followers, Ed plans to strengthen his online presence with @thelorenzosart and his art website coming third quarter this year to share more of his artworks to give back and help others who are also coping with stress and anxiety done by the pandemic.. “I believe that in my own little way extending a hand to others will go a long mile.”

Just like Ed, you can inspire and encourage others to take action by creating art. Check out @thelorenzosart on instagram to be inspired!
