The pandemic crisis has indeed turned the world upside down. After a year of discovering the vaccines that will help in flattening the curve of COVID-19 cases, several countries and corporations have successfully generated six vaccines namely; Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Johnsons & Johnson’s, and Sputnik.

Despite the number of available vaccines, people are still hesitant to take them because of false information that is continuously spreading online.

To end the confusion among the people, here are the facts about COVID-19 vaccines:

1. MYTH: Vaccines are not effective and safe.

FACT: Vaccines undergo several clinical trial tests before endorsing them to the public. Vaccine projects had plenty of resources, as governments invested in research and/or paid for vaccines in advance. Moreover, vaccine developers disclosed the efficacy rate of the vaccine in order to help people choose what vaccine to take. However, regardless of the efficacy rate, they are all proven safe and effective.

2. MYTH: COVID-19 Vaccines will make me sick.

FACT: COVID-19 vaccine cannot make you sick. These vaccines teach our immune systems how to recognize and fight the virus that causes COVID-19. Sometimes this process can cause symptoms, such as fever which are completely normal and are signs that the body is building protection against the virus that causes COVID-19.

3. MYTH: Getting the COVID-19 vaccine gives people COVID-19.

FACT: The vaccine for COVID-19 cannot and will not give people COVID-19. The two authorized mRNA vaccines instruct the cells to reproduce a protein that is part of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which helps the body recognize and fight the virus if it comes along. The COVID-19 vaccine does not contain the SARS-Co-2 virus, so there is no chance of getting COVID-19 from the vaccine.

4. MYTH: COVID-19 Vaccines can kill people.

FACT: Vaccines are intended to protect individuals from lethal infection, not to cause them to die. Additionally, vaccines are tested and go through rigorous and lengthy scientific trials as well as certification processes with World Health Organization and National Regulatory Agencies to ensure that they are safe and effective.

5. MYTH: COVID-19 contains microchips.

FACT: COVID-19 vaccines do not contain microchips. Vaccines are developed to fight against disease and are not administered to track people’s movement. After getting vaccinated, people develop immunity to that disease, without having to get the disease first.
