3. Tokyo, Japan

A bronze bust of Rizal can be found at Hibiya Park, near the historic Imperial Palace. He had visited Japan in February 1888, only intending to stay for a few days at first before eventually departing for Europe. He found himself admiring the Japanese people’s honesty, cleanliness, and determination. It was also during this visit that he fell in love with a woman called Osei-san, who historians later identified as Seiko Usui. Sadly, their short-lived romance came to an end in April 1888 when Rizal set sail for San Francisco from Yokohama.
