Almost 2 years after the release of the M1 chip, Apple is set to drop the all-new MacBook Air, now with an upgraded M2 chip.

Compared to the previous M1 model with a 13.3-inch retina display, the new MacBook Air M2 comes with a bigger and brighter 13.6-inch liquid retina display. Not only that, but it also has an improved 1080p HD camera.

Weighing 1.24 kg, the new MacBook Air is light, thin, and portable enough to be carried around everywhere but durable enough thanks to its all-aluminum enclosure.

Keeping its minimalist design from previous Apple models, the new MacBook Air features two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports on the left side. Unlike its MacBook Pro M2 counterpart and the previous MacBook Air M1 model that came with a USB-C charger, the new MacBook Air M2 uses a MagSafe 3 charging port. The right side includes a 3.5 mm audio jack for wired earphones.

The new MacBook Air M2 has the same 18-hour battery life as the previous Air M1 model.

As for the audio feature, the new Air foregoes the stereo setup from previous generations in exchange for a four-speaker sound system located between the display and keyboard.

The recently announced M2 chip marks the next chapter for Apple silicon. According to Apple, the new chip combines the CPU, GPU, memory, and more on a single chip, so the new Mac lineup runs faster while requiring less power.

Compared to the M1, the MacBook Air M2 houses an 8-core CPU, which is 18% faster; a 10-core GPU, which is 35% more powerful; and a 16-core neural engine, which is 40% faster.

Apple also claims that the M2 has a unified memory bandwidth of 100 GB/s as compared to the M1’s 66 GB/s and can support up to 24 GB of fast unified memory, allowing the chip to handle heavier and more complex workloads.

The new Air comes in four finishes, namely Space Gray, Silver, Midnight (blue), and Starlight (pale gold).

As listed on the Apple Philippines website, the Macbook Air M2 retails for PHP 69,990 for 256GB SSD storage and PHP 87,990 for 512GB SSD storage. It is now available for pre-order at select authorized Apple reseller stores.
