In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a multitude of films to be postponed, some of them never seeing it past pre-production and eventually being scrapped. One such feature that fell victim to this delay, but managed to prevail through to the final stages and eventually onto screens worldwide was ‘The King’s Man -Matthew Vaughn’s spy prequel to the preceding Kingsman films, and its latest official trailer has now been revealed.
The upcoming motion picture tells the origin story of how the Kingsman organization was established during the First World War, and chronicles the early days of the “independent intelligence agency,” during that period.
The King’s Man has action for days, and this newest R-rated, red-band trailer for the film proves that point. The most notable difference from the other trailers is the profanity, naturally, as well as Rasputin’s (Rhys Ifans) rise to be the movie’s grand villain. By the second half of the trailer, it becomes a bloodbath where more characters die than in a season finale episode of Game of Thrones, figuratively speaking.
Moreover, the film’s stars other than veteran Ralph Fiennes’ who plays Lord Oxford – a duke who is employed by a secret intelligence committee who is tasked to fight off a group of war masterminds who are scheming up a plan to murder millions, and Harris Dickinson’s portrayal of the new recruit to the titular group, Conrad, Oxford’s son, see less screen time.
New additions to the franchise, Djimon Housou’s Shola and Gemma Arterton’s Polly share the screen in highly explosive sequences that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats, both at home and at the cinema. Other notable names to the prequel are Gemma Arterton who plays Polly, who is in charge of a group of cleaners and Rhys Ifans who stars as Grigori Rasputin — the infamous Russian mystical adviser in the court of Czar Nicholas II.
With Matthew Vaughn at the helm and in the director’s seat, viewers can expect an incredible movie for their money’s worth. It has been rescheduled a whopping eight times, some of those postponements coming before the onset of the pandemic itself. Its original premiere date was supposed to be November 15, 2019, making the movie more than two years overdue.
If you fantasize about action-packed thrillers and have an affinity for war-era movies and gore, then this movie will definitely fulfill your cinematic desires. The King’s Man is scheduled to premiere on December 22, 2021,
