Hollywood actor Taron Egerton revealed that he took a break from social media to discover more about himself after noticing that he had become addicted to the online world.

On June 29, Taron shared on his Instagram account a statement admitting that he became distant from the real world because of too much engagement on social media.

“I just think it’s hard to break away from a cycle that I’ve grown to find a bit addictive and this is me making a commitment to myself.” the actor said.

In his post, Taron explained that he was so invested in browsing the internet that he commonly forgot about his life in the real world and felt detached from himself too.

“I spend too much in scrolling and I actually feel like my ability to sit and be present and read books and watch movies and seek out the company of people I love is eroding as a result,” he said.

In relation to his announcement of taking a break from social media, Taron thanked his fans and highlighted that this will not be the end, noting that he only wants to lessen the negativity brought to him by social media.

“I so appreciate it but I just need to not read the thoughts of strangers for a while, I’m not really sure this stuff is very good for any of us,” Taron said.

With this, the actor reminded everyone to have at least some time for themselves away from their gadgets, as this may be draining for some, just like what he felt.

“Have a great rest of your year everyone. And if you’re anything like me remember to leave your phone in the other room a bit more often,” Taron captioned.

Seeing the actor’s post, netizens applauded his openness about the said topic, highlighting the struggle that some people may face due to investing too much time in the online world.

“I agree with you completely Taron. Taking a break is so good for you and being off social media feels so great sometimes. This is completely deserved. I hope you enjoy your break! We will all be here when you return,” a supporter commented.

Taron is a Hollywood actor known for his action-comedy film Kingsman, which premiered in 2014.
