The provincial government of Sorsogon distributed PHP1,800 in additional honoraria to more than 3,000 barangay health workers (BHWs) from 14 towns and one city, an official said Monday.

“The honoraria from the provincial government are separate from the monthly honorarium they receive from their respective barangays,” Salvador Mendoza, the provincial information officer, said in an interview.

The payouts began on Dec. 5.

Mendoza noted that the program to provide extra allowances for BHWs started in 2022 under then- governor and now Senate President Francis Escudero, following the creation and approval of an ordinance.

He said the financial assistance recognizes the dedication and hard work of BHWs in delivering health services to every Sorsoganon. (PNA)
