Rich Brian shares “Butterfly,” the latest glimpse into his forthcoming third studio album WHERE IS MY HEAD? that is set for release on May 23rd. First teased during a Twitch livestream with d4vd, the self-produced single highlights Rich Brain’s artistic growth and creative evolution, a key theme of WHERE IS MY HEAD?. The single captures the emotional chaos of a toxic relationship that Brian grapples with and considers walking away from. Musically, the song builds on the analog sounds of lead single “Little Ray of Light,” once again produced by Brian himself.

Speaking on the single, Brian shares, “This is one of the most beautiful & hardest song I’ve ever made, I wrote this about someone that brought out so many flaws out of me that I didn’t know I had, it’s basically me talking about how insecure I am over a beat that sounds like Human Nature if it had 808s.”

The song arrives alongside a Jared Hogan-directed music video that serves as a visual continuation of its contemplative predecessor, “Little Ray of Light,” this time told from the perspective of the maestro, the mastermind that controlled the Brian present in the previous video. The video sees Maestro Brian conducting his half-human, half-animal ensemble in the cinematic offering. He balances two versions of himself—the romantic and introspective as well as the bold and unfiltered—at the narrative’s climax, showcasing his growth as a musician and storyteller.

Both “Butterfly” and “Little Ray of Light” mark a bold reintroduction to one of the brightest-burning stars of the 2010s—the product of someone who was ubiquitous for nearly 6 years only to go quiet for the last 3. WHERE IS MY HEAD? Rich Brian’s first full-length album since 2019, the Indonesian-born artist redefines and staggeringly coheres his vision. He asks, “How can I continue to make music that I love more than anything else? ” On WHERE IS MY HEAD? Rich Brian answers that question on each and every track.
