Reader’s Digest, an iconic publication that has been a staple in households for generations, is bidding farewell to its UK operations after 86 years. Eva Mackevic, the magazine’s dedicated Editor-in-Chief with nearly 8 years of tenure, took to LinkedIn to announce the closure, marking the end of an era for the publication.

In her post, Mackevic expressed her sadness at the closure, stating, “After 86 wonderful years, I am very sad to share that Reader’s Digest UK has come to an end.” She addressed the challenges faced by the magazine in the modern publishing landscape, acknowledging that despite its rich history and loyal readership, Reader’s Digest UK could no longer withstand the financial pressures prevalent in today’s magazine industry.

Mackevic took the opportunity to extend her gratitude to the numerous individuals who contributed to the magazine’s success over the years. She thanked her colleagues, writers, PR professionals, and brand partners for their support and dedication. “Your passion and expertise have made this journey unforgettable,” she wrote.

Addressing the concerns of writers awaiting payment for their contributions, Mackevic assured them that efforts were underway to facilitate communication regarding the next steps in the process. She expressed her hope for a smooth and swift resolution for all affected parties.
