The Los Angeles-based production firm, founded by Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, and Meghan Markle, The Duchess of Sussex, announced July 14, 2021, that they will be creating its first animated series with Netflix.
According to a press release, Pearl, which is set to be executive produced by the Duchess, is about the experiences of a 12-year-old girl who is “inspired by a range of important women throughout history.”
“I’m thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix, and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history,” the Duchess said.
Referenced like some girls her age, Pearl will go on a voyage of self-discovery as she attempts to conquer life’s daily challenges.
CEO of Rocket Entertainment Group and Elton John’s husband David Furnish, and producers Carolyn Soper, Liz Garbus, Dan Cogan, and Amanda Rynda will co-produce the project alongside The Duchess of Sussex.
As of writing, the production firm has yet to decide on the title of the animated series, with “Pearl” serving as a working title.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a multi-year production contract with the streaming service last September 2, 2020, in which the two royals will produce exclusive films and series for the site.
Their first project, a docuseries dubbed “Heart of Invictus,” will feature participants’ compelling stories of perseverance and optimism as they prepare for the Invictus Games.
