President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) officially signed an alliance with the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) on Saturday night, with a clear goal of pursuing the country’s progress.

Marcos, PFP chairperson, witnessed the signing of the “Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas” (Alliance for a New Philippines) covenant at Makati Diamond Residences in Makati City, along with key officials of both parties, including former Senate President and NPC chairperson Vicente Sotto III, PFP president and South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr., and Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Sandro Marcos.

The alliance aims to uplift the lives of the Filipino people under a unified “Bagong Pilipinas,” which is the current administration’s governance brand.

In his message, Marcos said the alliance’s agenda is focused on the nation’s progress.

“We are not joining forces for some narrow electoral objective alone. Of course, the approaching political cycle is an important element and has added impetus to what we are doing. But more than that, it is to continue elaborate work on the urgent needs of our people. Our agenda is the nation’s progress. Nothing more, nothing less,” Marcos said.

He described the alliance as “durable” because it is a “partnership of equals” born out of the “need to unite for the greater good” rather than a “marriage of convenience.”

“As chairman of the PFP, I believe that our shared commitment to empowering and amplifying the voice of every Filipino is what truly unites us in our mission to revitalize, rejuvenate, and transform our country,” he said.

The President said the coalition will be ready to serve, ready to win, to defy expectations, and to carve out a bright future with promise and potential.

He said beyond political victory, the alliance’s “ultimate aspiration” is achieving a Philippines that is “not just economically vibrant, but also a haven of stability, inclusivity, and endless and eternal hope.”

“So, let our actions resound louder than our rhetoric. Let our collective efforts uplift the lives of every single Filipino. Let our alliance usher in a new era of good governance. So with unyielding passion and boundless optimism, let us inscribe a new chapter in our nation’s narrative — one that is illuminated by the brilliance of unity, mutual respect, and progress,” he added.

Sotto said the alliance is grounded on the two parties’ “desire for genuine unity, strength, and continued positive change.”

“Historically, the NPC has always been supportive of the elected President. With urgency, we continue to push for unity among the leaders of our great nation. With that in mind, our party will heed the call of the PFP,” Sotto said.

“I believe this alliance will foster cooperation and strong support for our President considering our party has almost 4,000 members, of which 1,910 are incumbent officials,” he added.

The NPC has five seats in the Senate and 38 at the House of Representatives.

Last week, the PFP signed an alliance accord with Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD), which is the biggest party in the House of Representatives with 100 members.

Marcos previously emphasized the importance of collective action between the executive and legislative branches of government, especially in crafting and implementing transformative programs and policies.

“We have to position the Philippines in a way that we’ll take advantage of the new economy. And to do that, we have to make some very fundamental and structural policy changes,” he said. (PNA)
