President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will meet with the delegates of the Economic Cooperation Committees of Japan and the Philippines to discuss new opportunities to further enhance business collaboration between the two nations.
Marcos is scheduled to receive the delegates in a courtesy call at Malacañan Palace in Manila on Wednesday afternoon as part of the 42nd annual joint meeting between the Philippines and Japan, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a press briefing.
“Maliban sa pagpapanday ng mas matibay na relasyon, layunin din ng nasabing pulong na pag-usapan ang mga economic and business opportunities para sa ikabubuti ng ekonomiya ng dalawang bansa (Aside from strengthening ties, the meeting also aims to explore economic and business opportunities for the benefit of both countries’ economies),” Castro said.
“Inaasahang tatalakayin sa pulong ang mga paksa ng kalakalan, pamumuhunan, pagpapaunlad sa imprastraktura, at pagpapayaman sa human resources at turismo ng Japan at Pilipinas (Expected topics include trade, investment, infrastructure development, and the enhancement of human resources and tourism in Japan and the Philippines),” she added.
Philippine officials who will attend the joint meeting include Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, Finance Secretary Frederick Go, Trade Secretary Cristina Roque and Department of Economic, Planning, and Development Secretary Arsenio Balisacan.
Representatives from the Philippines-Japan Economic Operation Committee (PHILJEC) and Japan-Philippines Economic Cooperation Committee (JPECC), Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Endo Kazuya, and Japanese Minister for Economic Affairs Naobumi Yokota will also be present.
Castro expressed optimism that the economic meeting will result in meaningful discussions and productive outcomes.
In 1974, PHILJEC and JPECC forged a special agreement of economic cooperation to develop mutually beneficial relations to promote, strengthen and expand trade, economic, scientific technological advancements, exchange information data on economy, foreign trade, trade rules and regulations, and provide necessary assistance to business endeavors in both countries.
An annual joint meeting is held with alternating venues in the Philippines and Japan, focusing on business and socio-economic conditions in both countries, current developments in trade and commerce, and new areas for investments and business opportunities. (PNA)
