To remind the public of the ethics and importance of technology and the crucial role of innovators and users to keep the digital landscape a safe space, an exhilarating selection of sci-fi thrillers and animations will be screened for free on Wednesdays in May 2022.

The collection depicts the immense power of technology as well as the negative impact of its misuse. It likewise aims to raise awareness and initiate conversations about the different issues amid the Digital Age, encompassing human rights, privacy, freedom and data protection, among many others.

Japanese psychological thriller Paprika (2006) pictures the dangers of having a revolutionary psychotherapy device in the wrong hands. Through the adventures of renowned scientist Dr. Atsuko Chiba and her alter ego Paprika, Japanese filmmaker and animator Satoshi Kon curates a visual and cinematic feast that challenges the human-dream dynamic and the conflicts of dueling identities. It will be on view on May 4, 2022.

In the historical documentary Citizenfour (2014), American director and producer Laura Poitras grants the audience unparalleled access to a series of anonymous emails that offer inside information on the illegal wiretapping practices of the US National Security Agency (NSA). It is scheduled for May 11, 2022.

The Mitchells vs. the Machines (2021) follows young Katie and her family as they get sidetracked from their road trip into a whole new adventure – to save humanity from being abducted by robots. A collaboration between American cartoonist Michael Rianda and writer-director Jeff Rowe, the animated science-fiction comedy asks the question: what if the electronic devices come to life to stage an uprising? The movie is slated for May 18, 2022.

Minority Report (2002) by renowned American filmmaker Steven Spielberg is a science fiction film that depicts and criticizes a future highly dependent on technological advancement. It introduces Chief John Anderton played by award-winning actor Tom Cruise in his venture to reveal the flaws of a special police unit that arrests almost criminals through foresight.

Curated by the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, the free and public online screenings will be conducted via Zoom every 12 noon on the scheduled dates.
