President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday (New York time) stressed the need to expand education and economic opportunities for women.

During his address at the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at the United Nations headquarters here, Marcos said education remains a powerful tool for empowering women and transforming societies.

“Too many girls are still denied the education that will allow them to shape their own futures,” Marcos said.

“Education must remain at the center of all our efforts. When a girl is educated, the benefits extend far beyond the individual,” he added.

Marcos emphasized that education helps strengthen families, uplift communities, and expand the possibilities of entire nations.

He added that economic empowerment is also essential in advancing gender equality.

Women, he said, must have greater access to employment opportunities, financial resources, entrepreneurship, and leadership roles.

“Societies that fully include women in economic life are not only more just — they are stronger, they are more resilient,” Marcos said.

Marcos noted that Filipino women continue to contribute to the Philippines’ economic and social development.

He said women in the country play key roles in various sectors.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to policies that expand opportunities for women and ensure their full participation in national development. (PNA)
