Overseas absentee voting for Filipinos abroad has started in different embassies and consulates across the world.
In a tweet, the Philippine Mission to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva showed a picture of Permanent Representatives Evan Garcia and Manuel Teehankee submitting their ballots to kick off overseas voting.
The two cast their votes at the Philippine Consulate General in Geneva.
The Philippine Embassy in Egypt, meanwhile, has also received its first ballot from an absentee voter and will continue to receive absentee ballots until May 9.
“The voting period will be every day (including weekends) from 10 April 2022 to 09 May 2022, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. except for the last day 09 May when overseas voting ends at 1 p.m.,” the embassy said in a tweet.
The same embassy is also set to hold an overseas voting mission in Khartoum, Sudan from April 19 to 21.
The Philippine Embassy in Singapore also announced that overseas voting for the 2022 national elections has begun.
“To make the voting faster, more convenient, and safer for all kababayans who are registered voters in Singapore, the Philippine Embassy is happy to announce the launch of an online pre-verification system that they can avail of during the 30-day voting period,” the embassy said in a Facebook post.
The online verification system is available at bit.ly/SGPE_Halalan2022.
On the other hand, New York Consul General Elmer Cato said boxes containing election paraphernalia have arrived in Memphis, Tennessee from Alaska.
“@PHinNewYork is hoping said shipment will be delivered as soon as possible so that it could start the overseas voting process,” Cato said in a tweet.
In another tweet, Philippine Ambassador to New Zealand Gary Domingo said boxes containing ballots for the elections have arrived at the Philippine Embassy in Wellington.
The overseas absentee voting began on April 10 and will end on election day, May 9 — allowing overseas Filipinos to vote for a president, vice president, 12 senators, and a party-list group. (PNA)
