Hailing from Queensland, Meighty Marco Tamayo and Greightness Tamayo, Grey Belt holders, won the Abu Dhabi World Festival Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023 on November 1–2, held at Mubadala Arena, UAE.

Meighty Tamayo is only six years old with a record of 29 total wins, while his sister, Greightness Tamayo, is seven years old with a record of 31 total wins.

The Tamayo siblings competed on the first day in the category Kids 2 below 25kg. Meighty and Greightness won bronze and silver medals, respectively.

Their father and coach, Marco Antonio Tamayo, who is also a martial arts instructor, shared on Facebook how the siblings enjoyed the adventure and support given to them.

“Gr8 and M8y know there is a lot to work on, but both really enjoyed the experience (even myself and bubbles too), and it’s fuelled a desire to train and learn more Jiu Jitsu! Looking forward to the challenge of turning the bronze and silver into golds,” he wrote in his caption.

The Tamayo siblings’ humble beginnings show inspiration to parents and children to start young by practicing strength and discipline that may bear fruit in the future.
