The horror-fantasy comic book, ‘Ella Arcangel’ has been set to be an animated film soon, after being granted by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).

According to the Twitter post of Mervin Malonzo, author and artist of the ‘TABI PO’ comics, he confirmed that Ella Arcangel: Awit ng Pangil at Kuko will have its movie adaptation.

“Magandang gabi! Ikinagagalak kong sabihin na magkakaroon ng pelikula na base sa ELLA ARCANGEL: AWIT NG PANGIL AT KUKO sa tulong ng grant na ibinigay ng Film Development Council of the Philippines! Abangan si Ella, si Mimiw, at si Pangil! @zekemachine,” the author said.

Ella Arcangel is based on the comic created by Julius Villanueva and animated by Mervin Malonzo. It is a series of stories that are set in a strange community called Barangay Masikap, where both humans and monsters struggle for survival in a small portion of the big city.

Published by Haliya Publishing, Ella Arcangel also tackled social issues such as abuse at the hands of police and abusive husbands. Moreover, the thrilling comic story has a 19-minute animated version that was released in May 2020 via Malonzo’s official YouTube account.

Malonzo revealed that it took him two to three years to complete the animation. “I’ve been creating this episode in between comic-making, selling our books at conventions, and freelance work so it took me two to three years to complete,” he shared.

Meanwhile, the Ella Arcangel official Facebook page teased fans with an 18-seconds video of the said animated film.
