The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation-Davao Region (PhilHealth-11) paid PHP447 million in claims under its YAKAP (Yaman ng Kalusugan Program) preventive care program last year, benefiting 661,000 members, officials reported Monday.

Despite the payouts, PhilHealth-11 said only 30 percent of regional members are registered for YAKAP, which expanded on the Konsultasyong Sulit at Tama (Konsulta) program that sought to shift the focus from treatment to prevention and make healthcare more accessible at the community level.

“It is a good program for promotive and preventive care. We do not need to get sick to avail of the benefits of PhilHealth. Let us make it a habit to visit YAKAP clinics,” Germaine Tan, officer-in-charge for field operations, said during a press briefing here.

Regional Vice President Harvey Carcedo appealed for the media’s help in promoting the program, noting limited staff hinders widespread outreach.

“We need to educate our members that we have a YAKAP program where they can get consulted,” he said.

The enhanced primary care package, launched in July 2025, includes 20 tests from the original 15 basic laboratory tests; free cancer screening (colorectal, lung, liver and breast) at select hospitals and with doctors’ orders from accredited primary care providers; PHP20,000 annual outpatient medicine coverage; and unlimited consultations at 173 accredited facilities in the region.

Registration to avail of the primary care packages will be made easier and accessible through the eGov PH app. (PNA)
