The daily average of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases went up by 3 percent for the period August 8 to 14, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Monday.

From 3,904 per day from August 1 to 7, the number swelled to 4,001 daily last week.

The latest case bulletin showed there were 28,008 new cases and 229 verified deaths in the recent week.

Of the additional deaths, 98 occurred August 1 to 14.

For the same period, 101 cases were added to the tally of severe and critical infections, which went up to 822 from the previous week’s 772.

Only 28 percent or 719 out of the 2,571 intensive care unit (ICU) beds are in use, while 30.9 percent or 6,781 of 21,968 non-ICU beds are utilized.

To date, about 72,107,090 or 92.33 percent of the country’s target population (78,100,578) are vaccinated against Covid-19, including 77.96 percent of 8,721,357 senior citizens.

As of August 14, a total of 17,015,413 have received booster shots out of the fully vaccinated population. (PNA)
