The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday logged 1,591 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the lowest single-day number of infections in nearly eight months.

In its daily Covid-19 bulletin, the agency said this brought the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 2,793,898.

The active case tally, meanwhile, further dipped to 38,014 — lower than Tuesday’s 40,786.

Wednesday’s new cases are slightly higher than the 1,557 infections recorded on February 24 this year.

This is also the second consecutive day that daily new Covid-19 cases in the country are below the 3,000-mark since May 23 — with only 2,303 cases reported on Tuesday.

Another 4,294 new recoveries were also recorded, pushing the total tally to 2,712, 298.

Meanwhile, the death toll rose to 43,586 with 186 new deaths.

The new infections pushed the active cases to 38,014 with 69.4 percent listed as mild, 5.2 percent as asymptomatic, 3.4 percent as critical, 8.1 percent as severe, and 13.87 percent as moderate.

According to DOH data on Nov. 1, about 5.6 percent of 29,489 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.

“About 349 duplicates were removed from the total case count, and of these, 330 are recoveries and four are deaths. Moreover, 132 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” it added.

All laboratories were operational on Nov. 1 while seven laboratories were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.

The DOH noted the seven non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 1.3 percent of samples tested, and 3 percent of positive individuals based on data in the last 14 days.

To date, 44 percent of 4,100 intensive care unit beds, 34 percent of 20,500 isolation beds, 30 percent of 14,400 ward beds, and 30 percent of 3,300 ventilators are utilized by patients with Covid-19 nationwide.

Meanwhile, 39 percent of 1,400 intensive care unit beds, 28 percent of 4,900 isolation beds, 28 percent of 4,000 ward beds, and 29 percent of 1,000 ventilators dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are in use in Metro Manila. (PNA)
