Evaluating the possible threat of the online platform TikTok to individuals, the Philippine government still disclosed that they would look for further proof before banning this mobile application in the country.
The well-known platform TikTok is a mobile application that is commonly used to upload short videos for the entertainment or leisure of the audience. This mobile app originated in China in 2016, providing more access to entertaining videos.
Hence, the application has received a few negative comments as time passed because of its threat to the safety and personal details of each individual, which is not mostly new to many as most of the online applications have almost the same features.
Considering this matter, the National Security Council (NSC) has been looking into it but is still investigating the threats that it can bring to Filipinos before implementing the ban on TikTok nationwide.
According to the government agency, they have received concerns about cyber espionage from online sellers, noting that affiliates are also popular with the use of the mobile application.
“Before making a decision like that, they could probably have TikTok come and explain to us their technology and the basis for this kind of concern if there is any,” Information and Communications Technology Secretary Ivan John Uy said.
If the ban on TikTok is pursued, the Philippines will not be the first country to do so, as other countries such as Canada and Nepal have also banned the said mobile application with the possible threat of invading their community’s personal information when accessing such a platform.
