The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday reported 247 new recoveries, pushing the country’s total number of recovered cases from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) to 429,419.

In its 4 p.m. case bulletin, the DOH said the figures represent 92.8 percent of those who tested positive for the virus that has so far beaten the illness.

The agency also reported 1,314 new confirmed cases and 66 new deaths.

These figures brought the overall tally of active cases to 24,375 and the death toll to 9,021.

The DOH said about 82.6 percent of the active cases are mild, 8.5 percent are asymptomatic, 2.9 percent are severe, 0.31 percent are moderate, and 5.7 percent are in critical condition.

“There were four duplicates removed from the total case count as these were recovered cases. Moreover, 31 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths after final validation while two previously tagged deaths were reclassified as recoveries,” it added.

Quezon City topped the list of places that logged the most number of new cases with 93 infections.

It was followed by Rizal with 89; Benguet with 78; Bulacan with 61; and Davao City with 60.

DOH data on Dec. 21 showed that 1,044 or 5.3 percent of 21,223 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.

Currently, there is a 21,300-bed capacity dedicated to patients with Covid-19.

Available are 60 percent of 1,900 intensive care unit beds, 65 percent of 13,500 isolation beds, and 76 percent of 5,900 ward beds.

About 80 percent of 2,000 ventilators are available for Covid-19 patients’ use.

The agency advised the public to always wear face masks and full coverage face shield and avoid going out and staying outside for a long period.

It also reminded the public to provide a separate area inside the household for senior citizens so they get protected against Covid-19. (PNA)
